Pre-requisites
A Certificate III in Fitness (Fitness Instructor) is required prior to enrolment in the Personal Training course. Although it’s not necessarily a prerequisite, you will need to be well organised, with good reading and writing skills at least to a Year 10 level. You’ll also need access to a computer with internet, and email. Most importantly, though, you will need a passion for health and physical activity, and a strong desire to work in the industry.
How Long Will it Take?
This really depends on the student and the organisation they’re learning from. Some courses, such as the one taught at Brisbane’s Fit Education, provide students with very flexible learning formats. Although the knowledge you gain is of the highest quality, you can complete the work almost at your own pace.
In any case, studying for your certificate can be tailored around your busy schedule, which explains the rapid uptake of the profession. With 10 to 15 hours of study and professional development per week, you can complete the course in 3 to 6 months, or take your time over a whole year if need be.
Is the Certificate Nationally Recognised?
The certificate is indeed recognised throughout Australia. Upon completing the course, you’ll be able to register with Fitness Australia, which will give you the option of international registration links. This registration will allow you to work in the fitness industry!
