What motivated you to pursue a fitness certification, and why did you feel it was the right time?

The career advice I was given early on was to go to uni or get into a trade. So before getting into my fitness career, I trained and worked as an electrician, working on elevators, switchboards and solar to name a few.

It really was a tick the box and get experienced in a profession and earn some money along the way. I was at a time in my life when I decided it was time to do something I was passionate about.

I joined Maximum Potential Calisthenics as a student, starting with personal training sessions with Dave and then moving on to group classes. As I progressed quickly, I realised I wanted to help others achieve similar results. After shadowing Dave and assisting with social media at MPC, we discussed the possibility of me joining the team. That’s when I decided it was time to get trained and start teaching.

How did you come across Fit Education, and what attracted you to our course?

I did a Google search and found Fit Education.

Since I was working full-time, it was important for me to find a course that was completely online. When I landed on the Fit Education website, all the information was laid out in a way that I could quickly see it was the right fit for my needs. It looked professional and clean, it seemed like the right choice.

My goal was to teach outdoor training both PT and group sessions, so I needed to do both the cert III and IV. Fit Education had these on offer as a bundle so I could complete one and go straight on to the other so there was no time wasted.

Was the course easy to follow, and would you recommend it to others?

Yes, it was easy to follow the course structure and there was flexibility to upload my coursework in different formats (e.g: videos). I also liked that if I wasn’t on the mark with something that I got feedback quickly, which was invaluable.

It was helpful to be able to access the content on mobile so I could study anywhere.

How long did it take you to complete?

It took me about 4 months to complete the Cert III and 6 months for the Cert IV. I wanted to finish as quickly as possible, but I had to balance it with my job, so I needed a flexible schedule that worked around my other commitments.

What was the overall experience of studying with Fit Education?

Great – fantastic working with Fit Education. They made the course simple, straightforward, informative and it was quite easy to learn. For example the content was easy to read and understand.

Again the flexibility and not having to go to campus at all was a big win for me as was the ability to use video to show my proficiency.

What are you currently doing?

Since graduating, I’ve been helping students at Maximum Potential Calisthenics get stronger, fitter, and reach their training goals. I’ve also become a co-owner of the business, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to build a community of like-minded people who are passionate about getting strong.

What advice would you give to aspiring personal trainers who are thinking about studying?

Definitely go straight to Fit Education, they have all the certs you need to get started, as well as being responsive and flexible. You won’t regret it, getting into teaching fitness has been life changing for me.
