This qualification reflects the role of individuals with well-developed skills and knowledge required to deliver recreational services. Using discretion and judgement, they work with some independence and under limited supervision using clearly defined plans, policies and procedures to guide work activities.
Units have been selected to specialise as a recreation officer.
This qualification provides a pathway to work for any type of sport, aquatic or recreation organisation including commercial, not-for-profit, community and government organisations.

Just meet our basic language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) requirements, and you’re good to go.
Each Module consists of:
Course intakes are flexible with rolling start dates allowing students to commence whenever they want. Students have 12 months to complete their course. Course extensions can then be purchased.
No occupational licencing requirements apply.
This course does not include the required first aid and CPR units. Students must complete these units separately through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

The Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation (SIS30122) is a nationally recognised qualification that prepares individuals for entry-level roles across sport, aquatic and recreation settings. It develops practical, job-ready skills in workplace health and safety, customer service, risk management, facility operations and supporting sport and recreation programs. Graduates are equipped to work in community recreation centres, aquatic facilities, sporting clubs and leisure complexes, with elective units allowing alignment to specific industry interests. The qualification also provides a pathway to further study at Certificate IV or Diploma level within the sport and recreation sector.
After completing the Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation (SIS30122), graduates may pursue entry-level roles across community, commercial and government sport and recreation settings. Employment opportunities can include recreation officer, sport and recreation attendant, aquatic facility attendant, activity operations officer or customer service roles within leisure and sport facilities. The qualification supports work in community recreation centres, aquatic facilities, sporting clubs and leisure complexes, and also provides a foundation for progressing into supervisory roles with further study at Certificate IV or Diploma level.
Typically, it will take a student twelve (12) months to complete this qualification.
Units will be offered to students in Modules (or groupings) of units of competence.
Where practicable, units of competence in each phase will be similar in content to provide an enhanced learning and assessment experience.
Students may accelerate the completion of the program, dependent upon a range of variables:
• Credits granted
• Successful RPL applications
• Additional support strategies for (eg) Corporate group training and additional work-based workshops
Students often enter the course with a large base of foundational skills,knowledge and competencies from prior and concurrent learning and other sporting/fitness involvement, including as an athlete/player which can accelerate the course.
Taking all the above information to account if a student averages 5-12 hours of study per week they should expect to complete within the allotted twelve (12) month time frame.
Students will complete their qualification when they have achieved competency in all units of study.
