Registration as a Student or Fitness Professional - what you need to know
It is recommend as a student to join a registered body whilst you are studying. Fitness Australia offer a range of benefits with your student registration including insurance while you are doing your practical and logbook work, through to access to research articles and resources, along with connections to future employers. What’s more is it’s free to join.
Once you have completed or upgraded your qualification, You have options regarding registering your credentials. Two of the main governing bodies to support this is Fitness Australia or Physical Activity Australia.
There will be varying levels of requirements from each registered body for you to maintain your registration which would usually involve expanding your knowledge and education with short courses in nutrition and specialised weight training as examples.
Your qualification is held by these registered bodies whilst keeping you up to date with research, industry trends as well as offering short courses to develop your skills.
Are you taking your qualifications abroad? Each region has their own criteria for registration so it is a good idea to contact overseas employers or the Australian registered bodies for advice.
The International Confederation of Registers for Exercise Professionals (ICREPs) is an international partnership between registration bodies around the world that register exercise professionals. Check out their website at http://www.icreps.org/ to see where your qualification can take you.
