Position Overview:
The Head of Sport provides strategic leadership and direction to the sports department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality sporting programs across all year levels. Key responsibilities include managing sports operations, mentoring coaching staff, overseeing student athletic development, and fostering strong community and external partnerships. The role demands strong organisational, communication, and technical skills, with a focus on enhancing the school’s sports reputation and student engagement.
This is a full-time role and a non-teaching position.
Selection Criteria:
You will be able to demonstrate your ability and commitment to:
- Leadership and Strategic Direction: Demonstrated experience in leading and managing a School sports program or high performance program, with the ability to develop and implement a strategic vision that aligns with the school’s overall objectives. Experience within a GPS school is favourable.
- High Performance Accreditation and Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in high-performance sports programs, complemented by relevant accreditation, with the ability to apply best practices in coaching, player development, and program management.
- Advanced Communication and Relationship-Building Skills: Highly developed communication and liaison skills, with the ability to effectively engage and negotiate with students, parents, staff, and external stakeholders, fostering positive relationships that enhance the school’s sporting reputation.
- Mentorship and Coaching Development: Proven ability to mentor and develop coaching staff, with a focus on research and implementation of current trends in coaching, player development, and industry best practices, ensuring continuous improvement and excellence in the school’s sports programs.
- Community Engagement and Program Promotion: Experience in promoting and marketing sports programs within the school’s broader catchment area, including the ability to build and sustain strong relationships with state and national sports bodies, clubs, and other key partners to maximise opportunities for the school’s sports initiatives.
- Technical Proficiency and Administrative Expertise: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, OneNote, Microsoft Teams, and other school-related software systems (e.g., TASS), with a demonstrated ability to establish, update, and maintain effective administrative systems with high attention to detail.

All School staff, unless otherwise eligible for an exemption, must possess a current Positive Notice or “Blue Card” issued under the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 before commencing employment with the School. Volunteer Blue Cards are required to be transferred to Paid Employment cards.
