To support this vision, we are seeking an experienced and passionate Head of Athletes and Coaching to join our dynamic team in a part-time capacity (0.7) in Term 2, moving to full time in Semester 2, 2025.
Your role:
The Head of Athletes and Coaching takes responsibility for the quality of coaching and logistics across a range of TAS and JTAS sports, playing a pivotal role in fostering a high-performance sporting culture within the College. The incumbent will also be responsible for developing specific pathways and development opportunities for high-performance athletes.
Responsibilities Include:
- Mentor Head Coaches and support their vision for each program.
- Build a pipeline of student coaches and Canterbury alumni with qualifications in sport coaching.
- Plan a successful pre-season, season and post-season for multiple sports across the three trimesters.
- Arrange referees, umpires, venue coordinators and age-group coordinators as required, for these sports.
- Assist individual Sport Coordinators with their requirements in managing their programs.
- Organise individual student participation in associated representative sporting trials and events where applicable.
- Assist with the appropriate set-up, pack-down and management of the facilities required for home matchdays where needed.
- Communicate clearly and in predictable cadence, with parents and students regarding upcoming, current and future seasons.
- Problem-solve issues in selections, team dynamics and player engagement as required.
- Liaise with students and parents to ensure a smooth process for registration in representative trials and events.
- Track student engagement in the Duke of Edinburgh program.
Key Selection Criteria:
- Willingness to be part of a well-established and collaborative team.
- Proven experience leading high-performance teams or coaching departments.
- Experience developing and implementing strategic plans in sport environments.
- Ability to build strong relationships with athletes, coaches, parents, and the wider community.
- Experience in planning, coordinating training camps, competitions, and coach education events.
- Experience as a coordinator or Head Coach of a range of sports.
- Clear understanding of school culture and operations.
Essential Qualifications:
- Have a current Positive Notice Working with Children Blue Card, or the ability to obtain one.
- Degree / Diploma qualifications relevant to the position.
